Christmas for a Cause

For a change of pace of being an otaku, and not just attending conventions and events and cosplay, why not do an outreach activity and put some of yourself (time) for a cause?

Philippine Otaku Society will conduct an outreach activity in St. Rita orphanage this coming Christmas season.

Our goal is to collect donations
in any forms possible for the little children of St. Rita
Orphanage Inc.

Please see details so you would know
what you can do:

-The orphanage consist of 23 children
-Half of them are infants (2 months to 1 year old) while the other half
are 1-4 years old.

They need the basic necessities for babies:
-diapers
-milk (nestogen, nido, infant formula)
-clothes
-baby stuffs (bottles, nipples, etc)
-toiletries (baby soap, lotions, baby powder, alcohol, etc)

We have to provide food for the kids on this activity visit with them
-any volunteers?

The visit will take place on
December 19, 2010
3pm

Saint Rita Orphanage is located at:
Dr. A Santos Ave. Sucat, Paranaque City

I'm calling all my POS members, fellow cosplayers
and those with good heart to please help us this outreach a success.

We will be their 'mother' and 'fathers' and ' sisters' and 'brothers'
We will be their 'family on that day'

You can also bring, school stuff (coloring books, story books, toys - anything that
would make those children HAPPY.

ACTIVITIES:
-merienda feeding
-story telling
-distribution of gifts
-foster parents for a day

Other details:
-there will be no cosplay activity
(for the obvious reason that these kids
don't know what cosplay is :). )

Last August 21, 2010 at DPiXL studio in Makati, Famiglia Ritratto was held.

This is a photoshoot - Vongola Style, taken from the anime Katekyo! Hitman Reborn. Ideas are from non other than our founder Ayafreya who planned and organized the shoot 2 - 3 months before hand - informing all members about her plan.

A total of 21 members attended and 3 photographers were there.

Members! Reach-Out Otaku and Philippine Otaku Society is at it again, in Taguig, for the second time around! If you think the H2H last June 2, 2007 is the last, think again, because here we are again ready to hoe and sift and shove those earth and sand as we will be having a PART 2 in Habitat for Humanity in Taguig this coming NOv. 10, 2007. Join RO2's Second Habitat for Humanity Activity! You, your family,
and friends are invited! Help build a house (or a medium rise
building) for our less fortunate brothers and sisters. ^__^

Where – Rotaryville Family Townhomes, Taguig
When – November 10
This will be a whole day event. We will meet at 7AM, start at around
8AM, and then end at around 4 or 5PM.

Who can come: 18 years old and above, those not expecting something in return (this is an outreach, baka!)..for minors (17 and below) you need to sign a weaver and make your mom and dad signed it, bring it on that day and show it to us!

How we will go there:

Commute
We will meet at 711 (behind Jollibee, not the one along EDSA)
Guadalupe and will leave at 7AM. Yes, it is VERY early since we need
to be at the site by around 8AM.

Car
For those bringing cars, you may go directly to the site. Please be
there by 8AM.

What to bring/wear:
1 Water - lots of it. Mainit po sa site
2 More water - Mainit po talaga sa site :p
* based on our experience, 1 gallon water = 2 people (approx. 100 lbs
per person) ^_^
3 Food for around 3 friends (potluck tayo) – please bring utensils na
rin (spoons, forks, plates, cups)
4 Around P50.00 for jeep fare, preferably loose change
5 Gloves - Please be ready with them
6 Cellphones – full battery and with load. In case you want to
contact someone
7 Sunblock lotion (only if you want to)
8 Wear closed shoes please – preferably comfortable rubber shoes.
9 Long sleeves or sweatshirts – for those who do not want to get a
tan ^_^
10 Wear pants/ work clothes - no shorts or skirts or japorms please
11 Hat or cap (optional
12 Change of clothes
* Do make your outfit simple. We will be construction workers for a
day ^_^

Kuya Vinny's notes:
-While working, maximize your work. We are doing this for a cause.

-If you are entrusted with tools, refrain from playing with it.Safety
concerns dictates this.

-As volunteers, we maybe required to work with the foremen, the
recipients of the houses and volunteers from other delegation so be
in your best behavior. Ok lang kung after the work at tayo-tayo
lang.Hehe.

-In addition sa clothes,make sure that the clothes you're wearing are
really for work. In other words, we are rquired to get dirt or paint
on depends of what type of work we are gonna do for that day. Hindi
po tayo pwede mag-japorms. So remember, WORKCLOTHES.

For those with health conditions (asthma, back problems, etc), please
inform us beforehand so we can give you an appropriate task (you may

Please also print a copy of the waiver form at the files section.
I would like to emphasize that if you are 17 years old or below, it
is a must to have your parent/guardian sign the form. No form, no
work :)

Anime Brain Freeze Quiz 2008

Last September 22 and 23, the first official activity of Philippine Otaku Society was participated by almost all of the members in Globe users. The is quiz consisted of 150 items of random anime titles. It was a tough battle for each member as the quiz was about the old anime titles as well as the new releases of today. But at the end, only one will claim as the champion of them all! Congratz TOMOE! Along with Tomoe, the members who gained not only 5 points for the ranking, they also gained an additional 5 points for passing the quiz! For those who passed 74% below, an additional 2 points for them.*

Congratulations to those who participated~
       It really is a good feeling knowing that members do have interests in these kind of games. Not only it reminisces the old times, but along the way, we can learn from those animes too. To those who participate from the last activities, two thumbs to you! You guys rock! \m/

        *As of that day, members who participated in the quiz gets 5 points each. Those that earned 75% and above, gets an additional 5 points. (it means that if a member has participated then passed, 5pts plus 5pts = 10 points = 1 star). Those that participated but gets 74% and below, 5 pts for participating plus 2 points, so they have 7 points.

Habitat for Humanity 2007

Reach Out Otaku(RO2) together with Philippine Otaku Society joined Habitat for Humanity or H4H last June 2, 2007 at FTI, Taguig. Habitat for Humanity helps people that have no money to buy their own house by letting them work for it. It is really a generous project and it is an honor to be a part of it. We helped build homes for people who can't afford to buy their own house. For one whole day we experienced how it feels to be construction workers, it was both tiring and fun.

We met up at Guadalupe inside 7/11 store about 7 in the morning. Our meeting time was 6:30 but because some got lost and entered the wrong 7/11 store, we got a bit delayed. Before setting out to FTI, we double checked everything and everyone so we won't forget anything like hand protectors, handkerchief and a good supply of water. Kuya Vinny also briefed us about what will be our roles there and the basic things to do and remember like always wearing the hard hat and etc. After making sure that everything is in place, we headed to FTI, Taguig.

Upon arriving, we were greeted by the H4H engineers and we noticed that we were not the only volunteers for that day. Mapua's Civil Engineering students are also there for practical training. We filled up some papers and were given ID's, hard hats and allowed us to borrow a room where we can store our bags and stuff. And then, we were divided into groups with different jobs and areas. Some were sent to sift the sand that is going to use for hollow block making, most boys are tasked with carrying half-filled sacks of sand to where they were making the blocks, and then some were sent to fill the foundation of one of the houses. It really was heavy work and requires a bit of adjusting before you get the hang of it. After a while, it begins to be really fun. Especially when you're thinking that by doing this, you're helping build shelter for other people. There's no substitute for that inner fulfillment. Every sweat that falls in working that day will not be for nothing as they are for the betterment of other people's lives.

We finished at about 5 in the afternoon and although we got really tired we promised that we'll be back at sembreak. We were offered to ride one of the H4H engineer's truck so we'll be closer to the jeep terminal. It was an event that is worth going over and over again and will always have a value.

The activity on that day, only represents that being an otaku does not end on just watching our favorite anime or manga, or drooling over bishie jrock and jpop artists or cosplay on events and conventions. Even with just a little help like this, we can make a difference, we can make change people's lives. By doing this things, we can say that being an otaku is something meaningful.
